    CHAPTER 331.

    EDUCATION (OFFICERS' SALARIES AND ALLOWANCES).

    AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT, EMOLUMENTS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE OF INSPECTORS, LECTURERS AND TEACHERS IN THE PUBLIC SERVICE OF THE COLONY UNDER THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION.

    [1lth August 1964.1 [Commencement 1st July 1964.] 1. This Act may be cited as The Education (Officers' Salaries and Allowances) Act.

  15. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires'certificated teacher' means.a teacher who is classified by the Minister as fully qualified academically and professionally and who is the holder of a certificate in that behalf issued or recognised by the Minister;

    'contract officer' means a person employed in the public service of the Colony for a fixed period of time whether or not such employment is renewable on the expiration thereof;

    'Minister' means the Minister for Education;

    'pensionable' means employed in a pensionable office;

    'public officer' means a person employed in the public service of the Colony;

    'Public Service Commission' means the Commission established by section 95 of the Constitution;

    'total salary' means the salary specified in the First Schedule to this Act with respect to any post together with the sum of any allowances specified in the Second Schedule to this Act awarded to the holder of that post.

  16. Notwithstanding the provisions of any other Act, it shall be lawful for the Governor acting on the recommendation of the Public Service Commission to appoint such numbers of public officers as the Minister may from time to time require to serve in the posts in the public service of the Colony which are specified in the first column of the First Schedule to this Act.

  17. -(1) Every public officer employed in a post specified in the first column of the First Schedule to this Act shall be entitled to receive and shall be paid an annual salary at the rate specified or at a rate in the scale specified in respect of such post in the second column of that Schedule and in addition to such annual salary, those public officers entitled thereto shall be paid the appropriate allowance or allowances specified in the Second Schedule to this Act.
