CHAPTER 31.

SISAL INSPECTION AND GRADING.

AN ACT TO MAKE PROVISION FOR THE INSPECTION AND GRADING OF SISAL BEFORE EXPORT.

[4th July 1918.1

  1. This Act may be cited as The Sisal Inspection and Grading Act.

  2. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires'consignor' means the owner or shipper, whether jointly or severally, of sisal and includes any person authorised by such owner or shipper to ship sisal. It also includes, in the case of a company, the managing director, manager, secretary or other principal officer of the company in the Colony;

    'inspected' means inspected under the provisions of this Act;

    'inspector' means a person appointed or approved by the Governor to act as an inspector for the purposes of this Act;

    'prescribed' means prescribed by the rules;

    'rules' means rules made under this Act;

    'sisal' means sisal or sisal hemp.

  3. -(1) No sisal shall be sold or offered for sale in New Providence unless and until the same has been inspected and passed by the inspector.

    (2) No sisal shall be exported from the Colony except from the Port of Nassau or such other port or ports as the Governor may from time to time by Order permit.

  4. Every bale or package of sisal exported from the Colony must, before export, be clearly marked 'Inspected sisal.' 17 of 1918.

  5. Every exported bale or package of sisal must be accompanied by the proper certificate under this Act.

  6. It shall be lawful for the Governor from time to time to make rules in respect of all or any of the following matters: (a) the registration of consignors;

    (b) the registration and inspection of stores or baling houses where the work of inspection is to be carried out, and the times during which such stores or baling houses shall be open to the visits of the inspectors;

    (c) the registration of marks, stamps, brands, labels and tags;

    (d) prescribing the used under this Act;
