CHAPTER 168.

ILLITERATES PROTECTION.

AN ACT FOR THE PROTECTION OF ILLITERATE PERSONS. 4 of 1919.

  1. In this Act, unless the context otherwise Interpretation.

    requires'document' means(a) any deed whereby an illiterate person conveys or assigns real or personal property or renders himself liable to any obligation;

    (b) any agreement for the sale or purchase of land by an illiterate person; or any agreement whereby an illiterate person renders himself liable to any obligation;

    (c) any agreement- made with an illiterate person for a lease of land, whether the rent is reserved as a yearly rent or otherwise;

    (d) any promise in writing by an illiterate person to answer for the debt, default or miscarriage of another person;

    (e) any promissory note made or endorsed by an illiterate person;

    'illiterate person' means a person who is unable to write his name;

    'official attestor' means an official attestor under this Act.

  2. The official attestors under this Act shall official be-- attestors.

    (a) the Registrar General, the Assistant Registrar General, magistrates, justices of the peace, and notaries public;

    (b) such other fit and proper persons as the Governor may from time to time appoint. The Governor may -at any time revoke any such appointment.
