CHAPTER 195.

CENSUS.

AN ACT TO REPEAL AND RE-ENACT THE CENSUS ACT.

29 of 1963.

[31st July 1963.] 1. This Act may be cited as The Census Act.

2. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires'census date' means the date in respect of which the particulars contained in the various schedules and returns relate;

'house' includes dwelling-house, lodging-house and hotel;

'occupier' means, in the case of a dwelling-house occupied by one family, the head of such family, and, in the case of an hotel or lodginghouse, the landlord or keeper thereof, and, in the case of a house let or sub-let in different stories or apartments and occupied distinctly by different persons or families, the person occupying each such distinct storey or apartment or the head of the family,;as the case may be;

'regulations' means the regulations made under this Act;

'schedule' means a schedule under this Act and includes forms.

3. The Governor shall at least once in every ten years appoint a census date for the taking of a census of the inhabitants of the Colony, and not less than thirty days' notice shall be given in the Gazette of the census date.

4. For the purpose of taking a census the Colony shall be divided into such districts as the Governor shall determine.

5. The Governor shall have the care of superintending the taking of a census and may for such purpose(a) appoint a principal supervisor of the census to make such arrangements and do all such things as are necessary for the taking of a census in accordance with the provisions of this Act, and of any regulations;

(b) appoint supervisors, enumerators and other officers to assist the principal supervisor in the several districts into which the Colony may be divided;

(c) cause to be prepared, printed and issued for the use of the persons employed in taking the census such schedules and instructions as he may deem necessary;

(d) add to or alter such schedules and instructions.

6. The principal supervisor of the census shall cause a sufficient number of schedules to be supplied-to each enumerator within the respective districts into which the Colony shall be divided to...
